My name is Oluwaseyi sarah Ojapinwa and I am a cybersecurity professional. First of all, thank you so much for taking the time in checking out my blog. This blog aims to educate people about the cyber security space.

So today I will be writing about what cyber security means, what it entails, and the need for cyber security awareness in this age. Each time people ask me, "Hey Sarah, what are you currently doing?" And I tell them I work as a cyber security analyst in cyberspace. I get questions like, "What do you mean by cyber security?" What exactly do you do? and a whole bunch of other questions

What exactly is Cyber Security? In layman's terms, "cybersecurity" can be defined as the process of protecting or securing ourselves while using online technologies. The things that are being protected are our computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from all malicious attacks, damage, threats, unauthorized access, or misuse of authorized access.

The goal of cyber security is to reduce the risk of cyberattacks and protect individuals and organizations from the intentional and unintentional exploitation of security weaknesses and the vulnerability of systems and networks.

IMPORTANCE OF CYBER SECURITY

The need to keep information, data, and devices secure and safe increases the relevance of cyber security. People in today's world save massive amounts of data on laptops and other internet-connected gadgets. Much of it is confidential, such as passwords and financial information. Here are a few reasons for Cyber Security.

1. Cyber security helps ensure that public services or governmental organizations can continue to provide services to the public. A cyber attack on a power plant, for example, may result in a city-wide blackout. It could steal from hundreds of thousands of individuals if it targeted a bank.

2. . Getting exploited poses a direct threat to the sensitive information that businesses have. It can also sabotage their trust with consumers and put companies in serious legal trouble. Cybersecurity is needed to avoid cases like this.

3. Because practically everyone on earth is increasingly dependent on information and communication technologies, cybercriminals have growing criminal opportunities.

4. Computer viruses have the ability to spread like wildfire. If not managed properly, these might cause serious problems for you as an individual or your company. Viruses can corrupt your files and systems. As a result, it's critical to take cyber security seriously because it can protect your computer systems from infection.

The reasons listed above are just a few of the many reasons why cyber security is needed in our world today. I hope this article has made us better informed about what cybersecurity is all about and its importance in our world.
